Urban Renewal of Hartford's center has been said to have left a cultural vacuum at the city's core, where life and action are only characterized by the businesses downtown. In this assignment, to photograph everyday life in Hartford, I chose to ignore the commonly held assumption of Hartford being a dangerous city and try to find life and color in mundane observation. I discovered that although businesses did dominate downtown, people and different cultural character could be found on the outer edges of the city. Hidden and tucked away, Hartford's energy could be found only when it was specifically searched for.
